Top 5 Things to do for your Business During COVID-19

  1. Website updates: This week I took the time to check my website’s page sizes. You can do this in your web browser. I use Google Chrome. Open a new tab. Use the keyboard shortcut to open the Developer Tools: Ctrl+Shift+I. Click on the Network tab. Type in your website and hit enter. Look at the bottom of the tab to view the page metrics, including page size and load times. You can see which images are taking up the most space and replace them with smaller file sizes. I used an online image resizer like this one.

  2. SEO: Create free listings for your business on websites such as Yelp, Angie’s List, Google My Business, Bing Business, and CitySearch. When your business is listed on other websites, it validates it and tells Google you’re legit. Meaning, it moves it up in the SEO rankings and puts your page higher in the search results.

  3. Blog: Posting on your blog helps your readers find you easier. If you’re posting about what they’re searching, it will give you a better opportunity to rank higher in search engines and attract readers to your website.

  4. Organize your files: You know how you feel better about your life when your house is tidy? Same thing with your computer and files. Clean up your desktop and sort your files into organized folders. Back up your files on an external hard drive or two. Then ditch everything that’s taking up space and not getting used. If this exercise is a success, repeat and clean up the photo files on your phone,

  5. Take up a passion project: If there ever was a time in our lives to start the passion projects we’ve been dreaming up, that time is now. Practice yoga, dust off the ukulele, read books, take up meditating, practice piano, learn hand lettering, scrapbook, print your photos, draw, paint, cook, bake.
