14 Best Engagement and Wedding Photography Locations in Metro Detroit
/I’ve had the pleasure of capturing engagement sessions and weddings all over Metro Detroit, Michigan. I’m always looking for unique venues that reflect the couple I’m photographing to make the photos look authentic to them. Here are my favorite locations that I continuously refer to my clients and keep me coming back year after year.
1. The Detroit Institute of Arts. You can’t beat the DIA’s marble walls as a backdrop for wedding and engagement photos. For any art and architecture lovers, this is a must.
2. Ann Arbor. Specifically, walking around the University of Michigan campus and exploring the unique architecture and floral gardens.
3. Independence Oaks County Park in Clarkston, Michigan. I love the variety of scenery you get here. You can get the woodsy vibe and then take a 5 minute walk and be standing in front of a serene lake.
4. In your home. I love in-home sessions for intimate couples sessions where you can really be at ease. Bonus: This spot has perfect weather year-round.
5. Cranbrook House & Gardens in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Another gem with a variety of scenery. You get the beautiful gardens, wooded trails, and unique architecture all in one location.
6. Cranberry Lake Park in Oakland Township, Michigan. This is such a charming spot for photos. There’s a historic barn, willow trees, a beautiful trail, and plenty of nature to go around.
7. Belt Z Lot in Detroit, Michigan. Drive all the way to the top of the Belt Z Parking Garage for unmatched views and original artwork like the mural you see below.
8. Pontiac Lake State Park in Waterford, Michigan. I love this park on any given day. I’ve both hiked and photographed here year round and enjoy its simplicity. It has the best of both worlds, wooded trails and a big lake.
9. Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. Specifically, the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory. I love walking around the conservatory and taking photos of it as a backdrop.
10. Stony Creek Metro Park in Shelby Township, Michigan. This is another one of my all time favorites because it never fails me. Every session I have here turns out phenomenal. Also, if you’re a fan of pine trees, check out the parallel pines inside the park. It’s incredible!
11. Heavenly Scent Herb Farm in Fenton, Michigan. This spot is totally unique. It has a greenhouse and the whole location is filled with beautiful gardens. It does cost money to shoot here, so make sure to call and pay ahead of time.
12. Seven Lakes State Park in Holly, Michigan. This is a beautiful park, especially in the fall. There are many trails as well as a lake.
13. Downtown Fenton. I love shooting in Fenton because it has such a unique vibe. You can walk around and explore the quaint city and take photos in front of murals like this one below.
14. Downtown Clarkston. Clarkston is so charming. From string lights to murals to igloos, whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it here.
